Day Eleven - Sean and Rose's Hawaiian Adventure

Day Eleven 12-31-15: Sean and Rose returned to Chicago today. It was hard to say goodbye.

Day Ten - Sean and Rose's Hawaiian Adventure

Day Ten 12-30-15: I took Michael back to Urgent Care and the doctor advised him to continue the antibiotics and to return if he didn't see any improvement.
When I returned to the house, Sean, Rose, and I made arrangements to meet Butch, April, Celina, Ellen and Cat at the Byodo-In Temple at the Valley of the Temple Memorial Park. I had never been there before and it was really beautiful.  Sean, Rose, and I went to the Pali Look-out next then headed for Rainbow Drive-In in Kapahulu for lunch.   A short stop at the beach followed.
Michael, Sean, Rose and I met Butch, April, and Celina at Roy's Hawaii Kai for a final dinner out.

Day Nine - Sean and Rose's Hawaiian Adventure

Day Nine 12-29-15: Michael finally decided it was time to go to Urgent Care.  The doctor he saw told him that a bacterial infection was causing the fever and knee pain and prescribed antibiotics. He was also advised to return to the clinic the following day for a recheck. I spent the day catching up on house stuff.
While I was at Urgent Care with Michael, Sean and Rose decided to go to Chinatown on their own.  They browsed the shops and had lunch in Chinatown. They went to the beach afterwards and met up with Butch, April, and Celina.  Bad luck was in the air - Sean cut his palm on some coral.
Leslie, Chelsea, Sione, Selena, and Lily brought dinner over - Chinese food and pork hash. Butch, April, Celina, Rose, and Sean seemed to have a good time chatting with them.  Lily also showed us her hip hop moves.

Day Eight - Sean and Rose's Hawaiian Adventure

Day Eight 12-28-15:  Michael was still feverish and the swelling in his knee was making it difficult to walk. He still believed he had the flu and after surfing the Internet attributed his knee pain to an ACL injury. He refused to go to the doctor.
Sean, Rose, and I met Butch, April and Celina in Hawaii Kai after discovering the parking lot at Hanauma was full and closed.  Butch dropped everyone but me at the entrance of the parking lot and then returned to the parking lot at Koko Marina and the two of us walked up to Hanauma Bay.  Sean, Rose, and Celina rented snorkeling gear and said they saw a lot of different varieties of fish. I've been inspired to purchase snorkeling gear - my thoughts are that it may not be as busy at Hanauma in the late afternoon.
Sean, Rose, and I went to Waikiki to meet up with Butch, April, and Celina and ended up having an excellent dinner at Chuck's Cellar.  Leslie very kindly bought us a round of drinks.  After dinner, we checked out the shops on Kalakaua Ave.

Day Seven - Sean and Rose's Hawaiian Adventure

Day Seven 12-27-15: Michael woke up in the middle of the night with a fever and chills and his right knee was also swollen. He was pretty miserable.
Sean, Rose, and I decided to give him some peace and quiet and met Ellen and Cat in Manoa Valley with the intent to go hiking at Lyon's Arboretum.  Lyon's was closed so we headed to Manoa Falls instead. After hiking, Sean, Rose, and I headed to Kuhio Beach with a stop at Zippy's for lunch.  Later that evening, we all (Ellen, Cat, Butch, April, Celina, Sean, Rose, and I) met at ChaChaCha for dinner.

Day Six - Sean and Rose's Hawaiian Adventure

Day Six 12-26-15: Sean, Rose, Michael, and I drove to the NorthShore and then continued around Oahu.  We met Butch, April, and Celina at Waimea Bay. It was a bit rainy but we all ended up going into the water and would have gotten wet anyway.  I still think the clear deep water at Waimea is one of the best places for swimming on Oahu (when it's calm). We made several stops as we made our way around the island including the Pipeline, the Kahuku Superette for poke bowls, Laie Shopping Center for plate lunches, Laie Point, Kahana Bay, Chinaman's Hat, and the Blowhole.

Day Five - Sean and Rose's Hawaiian Adventure

Day Five 12-25-15:  Christmas Day...  Sean, Rose, Michael, and I ate breakfast (french toast, bacon, portuguese sausage, and eggs) and then opened gifts.  We met Butch, April, and Celina at Ala Moana Beach Park and thanks to Michael went paddle boarding.  Both Celina and I were lucky enough to see large sea turtles when we were out on the boards.  Something I will never get tired of.  Ellen and Cat joined us all at the Kawaikui house for dinner. Michael made a delicious Kalbi beef dish with vegetables and rice.  Desserts included a yummy banana pudding (made by Rose) and an Haupia cake (purchased at Zippy's by Butch).  Yum!

Day Four - Sean and Rose's Hawaiian Adventure

Day Four 12-24-15:  Sean, Rose, Michael, and I started the day hiking up the Makapuu Lighthouse Trail.  On the way back to the house, we stopped at Costco to shop for Christmas dinner.  Later we met Butch, April, and Celina at Queen's to swim and just chill.   We all met at the house afterwards and ate leftovers for dinner (chili and rice, Chinese food).

Day Two - Sean and Rose's Hawaiian Adventure

Day Two 12-22-15: Sean, Rose, Michael, and I met Butch, April, and Celina at Queen's Beach for swimming and paddle boarding.  Rose had a great time riding the waves to shore. We all met later at our house on Kawaikui and picked up take-out Chinese for dinner. It was really nice to be together again.
